I am currently entering my second year of Engineering at Western University, and plan to obtain a dual degree in Business with the Ivey program. I have been tutoring for 4 years with positive results and am a very enthusiastic and committed teacher.
How long have you been a tutor? Tell us about your history with students.
I started tutoring in grade 10, by tutoring a grade 9 who struggled with math. Throughout high schooI, I tutored 3-4 students at any given time in math. In grade 11, I started tutoring chemistry and physics in addition to math. In University, I tutored someone in both Finite Math and Linear Algebra, as well as another peer in physics.
Tell us about your hobbies and interest
I have been playing Rugby since I was 12 years old. I have been the captain of both my high school team and my club rugby team for this duration, which has taught me valuable leadership. I continued to play in University, which was challenging due to my busy schedule, but extremely rewarding.
Tell us about your volunteer experience
Volunteering has been a passion of mine from an early age. In high school, I participated in and ultimately ran a charity week which regularly generated over $30'000 for different charities. In university, I was philanthropy/human issues commissioner on student council. This involved organizing various charity related activities such as canned food drives.
What is your tutoring strategy?
The first thing I establish is a judgement free and comfortable environment. When someone feels comfortable to ask questions, it is easiest to teach them because it gives the best idea of the exact issues they are having with the material. That way, it is easy to address the concepts from the viewpoints of the student and reframe them so they can be understood.
Math : grade 9 Math,grade 10 math,data management,advanced functions,calculus,vectors,discrete math,finite math,geometry,linear algebra,precalculus,probability,trigonometry,
Math has always been my best subject to both learn or teach. In high school I earned a grade of 100 in Calculus and Data Management, with no math mark being below 90 in both my University and High School career.
Science : grade 9 science,grade 10 science,chemistry,physics,
As an Engineer, my science skills are being constantly developed and strengthened, with an emphasis being put on chemistry and physics. I am more than comfortable with biology as well, but prefer to tutor in basic science or chemistry and physics.
